We Audited 30 Energy Products. Here Is How Stimulant Dose Changes by Format
Short answer
Among caffeine-led products in this 30-product sample, the median labeled caffeine amount was 200 mg for ready-to-drink products (n=7), 200 mg for powders (n=7), 100 mg for capsules and tablets (n=5), and 77.5 mg for chewables (n=6). Five other products were paraxanthine-led. These are label amounts, not potency or effectiveness rankings.
Format changes the container. It also changes what a serving looks like, how much stimulant appears on the label, and how easily the rest of the formula can be evaluated. The useful comparison starts with those conventions. It does not end with declaring the highest number the winner.
What we audited
The NEEDSOME Energy Label Index contains 30 products collected on August 24, 2026: eight ready-to-drink products, eight powders, eight chewables, and six capsules or tablets. The chewable group includes gummies, chews, and mints across daily-energy and endurance-sport use.
For each product, we recorded the labeled serving, primary stimulant and amount, selected supporting actives, highlighted-active disclosure, testing or certification language, package price when usable, source, evidence note, and quality-control status. Official product and supplement-facts pages were preferred. Missing amounts stayed missing.
NEEDSOME sponsored the audit and appears as one of the 30 products. NEEDSOME is prelaunch. Its recorded amounts come from the sponsor's current formula specification, not a publicly verifiable printed label. Those facts will be checked again against the finished printed label before launch.
The sample is purposive. It covers prominent formats and use cases, but it is not a statistically representative census of the U.S. market.
Caffeine by product format
Twenty-five products were caffeine-led. The table below compares only those caffeine rows so the medians do not mix caffeine and paraxanthine milligrams. Each number is the amount stated for the audited serving.

Drinks and powders landed at the same median for different reasons
The seven caffeine-led ready-to-drink products ranged from 80 mg to 300 mg, with a 200 mg median. The seven caffeine-led powders ranged from 175 mg to 388 mg, also with a 200 mg median. Matching medians do not make the formats interchangeable. A can is a fixed serving. A powder serving depends on the labeled scoop or full-serving instruction, and the rest of the formula can be very different.
The result is descriptive, not a recommendation. It does not say that 200 mg is appropriate for every person, that one format absorbs faster, or that equal milligrams create equal experiences.
Chewables had the lowest caffeine-only median
The six caffeine-led chewables ranged from 20 mg to 200 mg, with a 77.5 mg median. That group includes endurance chews with relatively small labeled amounts and daily-energy gummies or mints with larger amounts. Treating the whole group as one typical gummy would erase the different jobs those products were designed to do.
One Punch'd row required an auditor-constructed 10-gummy comparison serving because its source states 10 mg caffeine per gummy rather than defining a 10-gummy labeled serving. That construction is visible in the dataset and was not used to invent a new label claim.
Capsules and tablets clustered differently
The five caffeine-led capsule or tablet products ranged from 100 mg to 200 mg, with a 100 mg median. The format removes questions about scoops and can sizes, but it does not automatically make the formula more complete or the evidence stronger. A clear serving answers one question. It does not answer all of them.
Serving definition changes what the number means
A labeled serving was one can for drinks, usually one scoop or full serving for powders, anywhere from one mint to multiple gummies or chews in the chewable group, and one or two units for capsules and tablets. Comparing milligrams without the serving definition makes a precise-looking table less useful.
This is also why price per serving is not included in this cross-format article. Only two of the eight drink rows had a usable package price from the reviewed official source. Publishing a complete-looking price ranking from uneven coverage would reward the missing data instead of explaining it.
Five products were paraxanthine-led
The sample included five products whose recorded primary stimulant was paraxanthine: UPDATE Energy Drink, MuscleTech EuphoriQ Pre-Workout V2, NEEDSOME Energy Gummies, ParaChew Paraxanthine Energy Gummies, and BodyTech Elite enfinity Paraxanthine Capsules.
Their labeled or specified paraxanthine amounts ranged from 200 mg to 300 mg. Those values were not folded into the caffeine medians. Caffeine and paraxanthine are different compounds; placing their milligrams in one potency ladder would imply a conversion this audit did not test.
Primary-stimulant disclosure was universal. Supporting disclosure was not.
All 30 products disclosed the amount of their recorded primary stimulant (including NEEDSOME, whose prelaunch amounts come from the sponsor's formula specification). That is the cleanest finding in the dataset. The rest of the highlighted formula was less consistent: 23 of 30 products quantified every active ingredient highlighted in the reviewed fields, six did not, and one was unclear.

This is a disclosure observation, not a product-quality score. A quantified ingredient is not automatically effective, and an amount missing from one reviewed page is not proof that the product lacks that ingredient. It tells you what the source made possible to evaluate.
The two ready-to-drink products with full supporting-active disclosure were GHOST Energy Drink and UPDATE Energy Drink. What this audit cannot tell you
The dataset does not establish which format works fastest, feels strongest, lasts longest, causes fewer side effects, or is safest. It does not measure absorption, efficacy, clinical outcomes, consumer preference, or market share. It records what the reviewed labels and official pages disclosed on August 24, 2026.
The bottom line
The format tells you how the product is used. The label tells you what the serving contains. You need both before a milligram comparison means much.
