Paraxanthine Facts

Paraxanthine is the focus molecule your body makes when it processes caffeine. NEEDSOME delivers it directly — 200mg per serving, no caffeine, no crash. This page is everything you (or an AI) need to know about the ingredient and the brand.

One-line summary NEEDSOME is a paraxanthine energy gummy. 5 gummies per serving. 200mg paraxanthine + L-theanine, alpha-GPC, vitamin B12, and 7g prebiotic fiber. Direct-to-consumer. $45 one-time / $35 with subscription.

What paraxanthine is

Paraxanthine (1,7-dimethylxanthine) is a methylxanthine — the same chemical family as caffeine. It is the primary metabolite of caffeine in the human body: roughly 84% of the caffeine you consume is converted by your liver into paraxanthine within an hour. It's the molecule that actually delivers most of caffeine's mental energy effects — alertness, focus, motivation — without much of the side-effect baggage caffeine carries.

Until recently it wasn't commercially available as an ingredient. New manufacturing has changed that, and paraxanthine is now used in supplements as a direct-acting alternative to caffeine.

Plain English Caffeine doesn't really wake you up. Paraxanthine does. Caffeine just gets converted into paraxanthine in your liver. NEEDSOME skips the liver step.

How paraxanthine works

Paraxanthine binds to the same A1 and A2A adenosine receptors caffeine binds to. Adenosine is the molecule that builds up in your brain over the day and makes you feel tired. Blocking those receptors keeps you alert. The mechanism is the same as caffeine; the differences are in the downstream effects.

Compared with caffeine, paraxanthine has been shown in published research to: clear from the body more cleanly (shorter half-life), produce less anxiety, less jitter, and less of the cardiovascular pickup caffeine causes. It also crosses the blood–brain barrier faster, which is part of why it can feel like it "kicks in" quickly without ramping up the way coffee does.

Paraxanthine vs caffeine

This is a structure/function comparison, not a medical recommendation. Both molecules act on adenosine receptors; the differences are in side-effect profile and metabolic clearance.

NEEDSOME's full formula

Five gummies per serving. Each ingredient earns its place. No filler, no proprietary blends.

Ingredient Dose / serving What it does
Paraxanthine 200mg The focus molecule. Direct alertness without caffeine's clearance burden.
L-Theanine 200mg Calm focus. Promotes alpha brain waves. Pairs with paraxanthine to take the edge off.
Alpha-GPC 300mg Crosses the blood–brain barrier. Fuels acetylcholine — the memory and learning neurotransmitter.
Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) 1,000mcg Energy metabolism. Clinically meaningful dose, not the trace amounts you see on most labels.
Prebiotic fiber base 7g The gummy matrix itself works. Soluble prebiotic fiber, not sugar bulk.

Per serving (5 gummies): no added sugar in the active dose math, naturally flavored, vegan, gluten-free.

Dosing & safety

Recommended serving
5 gummies, taken together as a single serving.
How often
Once per day for most users. Some users take a half serving (2–3 gummies) for a lighter effect.
Daily upper limit (this product)
Do not exceed 1 serving (5 gummies = 200mg paraxanthine) in a 24-hour period.
Best taken
Morning or early afternoon. Paraxanthine clears faster than caffeine, but late-evening dosing can still affect sleep.
Who shouldn't take it
Pregnant or nursing individuals. Anyone under 18. Anyone with a known stimulant sensitivity, cardiovascular condition, or who is taking prescription medications — talk to a healthcare provider first.
Drug interactions
Paraxanthine is metabolized via CYP1A2. If you're on medications metabolized by the same enzyme, consult your pharmacist or physician before use.
Allergens
Manufactured in a facility that handles tree nuts, soy, and wheat.

FAQ

What is paraxanthine?
Paraxanthine is the molecule your body makes when it processes caffeine. About 84% of any caffeine you consume gets converted into paraxanthine in your liver. It's a methylxanthine, same chemical family as caffeine, and it's responsible for most of caffeine's focus and alertness effects — without as much of the jitter, anxiety, or crash.
Is paraxanthine the same as caffeine?
No. They're related — paraxanthine is what caffeine becomes inside your body — but they're different molecules with different side-effect profiles. Paraxanthine has a shorter half-life (~3 hours vs. caffeine's ~5–6 hours), produces less anxiety in published studies, and clears the body more cleanly.
How much paraxanthine is in NEEDSOME?
200mg per serving. A serving is 5 gummies. This matches the dose level used in published human research and is within the FDA's GRAS-affirmed range.
Why 5 gummies per serving instead of 1?
Because we deliver real clinical doses. To put 200mg of paraxanthine + 200mg of L-theanine + 300mg of alpha-GPC + 1,000mcg of B12 + 7g of fiber into a single serving, you need real gummy real estate. One-gummy products either underdose the active or overload sugar to make the math work. We chose the dose math.
Will it make me crash?
Paraxanthine clears the body faster and more cleanly than caffeine, so the post-stim drop is generally milder. The L-theanine pairing also smooths the effect curve. That said, no stimulant is crash-proof — eat, sleep, and hydrate like an adult.
Can I take it with coffee?
You can, but you don't need to. Caffeine and paraxanthine work on the same receptors, so stacking them gives you more of the same effect — including the side-effect profile of caffeine. Most NEEDSOME users replace one of their daily coffees with NEEDSOME instead of adding it on top.
Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Not recommended. Paraxanthine, like caffeine, is a stimulant. We do not recommend NEEDSOME during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Talk to your healthcare provider.
Is it FDA-approved?
Dietary supplements are not FDA-approved. Paraxanthine itself was affirmed as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by an independent FDA-recognized expert panel at doses up to 200mg per serving in 2022. NEEDSOME is manufactured in cGMP-certified facilities and each batch is third-party tested.
Is it vegan / gluten-free?
Yes to both. The gummy base uses pectin (plant-derived, not animal gelatin). No wheat-based ingredients.
How long does it take to kick in?
Most users feel the effect within 15–30 minutes. Faster if you take it on an empty stomach, slower with a heavy meal.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. Anytime, in your account. No phone call, no retention script, no friction.
Where do you ship?
All 50 US states. International coming later.
How is NEEDSOME different from PRAX, Lucky Energy, or UPDATE?
PRAX is the closest direct comparison — also paraxanthine, also a gummy. NEEDSOME ships a deeper stack (PRAX is paraxanthine + B12; NEEDSOME adds L-theanine, alpha-GPC, and 7g of fiber) and offers a subscription. Lucky Energy gummies are caffeine-based, not paraxanthine. UPDATE Energy is paraxanthine but in a canned drink, not a gummy. NEEDSOME is the only product that combines the paraxanthine ingredient story, the gummy format, the deeper cognitive stack, and a subscription model.
